Hopefully, if you're reading this while trying to get ROA to boot up, you'll be able to find what application is hooking to your game and causing it to crash (assuming you tried everything else that I tried, in the list down below). Just in case it's something simpler than this. * In my opinion, this should only be tried after you've done the obvious, such as checking your event viewer, verifying game files, etc. Boot the programs up one at a time while opening and closing ROA and find which one crashes the game. My recommendation is to perform a clean boot of windows, and use the process of elimination with the programs you saw that were automatically starting up when you turn on your computer. Not everyone will be able to find the program causing ROA to crash right away. RivaTuner was the first thing I checked once I get to the WER file found in the event viewer and read the error that was thrown. The main inhibitor I could see for others however, is that I was already suspicious of this application in the back of my head. I found the app that was hooking and causing my crashes was MSI Afterburner's partner app RivaTunerStatistics. This is normally the result of not utilizing a cache-system (which is not always possible with every game engine). Normally, this doesn't cause problems unless the launching sequence has a very precise window/order of loading. Essentially, unoptimized integrated applications will "hook" onto the launching sequence of most, if not all, executable files. What was amazing to me was, once I discovered the problem, not only did ROA start up, but GTAV and several Unity games stopped crashing/were able to launch. The problem is, if you have an integrated application that is unoptimized for programs like this, it will always crash the game. In short, Rival's launching sequence requires a certain number of files to be loaded in order, otherwise, due to the game's engine being on GameMaker, it throws a fatal error and fails to start the game. Hopefully you find it educational :) I know I found this experience very educational. If you want my original forum post, scroll to the bottomish. The following paragraphs are my conclusions on the matter. I spent about 5 hours trying to get the game to work, hunting down the darkest recesses of the internet until I finally came across the solution. That should force the game to a default state wherein it can properly generate said config files while also deleting any current (and probably invalid) ones. This post is a repost of my original steam forum post for the game. If this happens, do a full reinstall and delete any foldors pertaining to the game in your Documents/My Games folder. If it keeps happening, I would assume that some sort of configuration file was invalid and the game couldn't properly generate a replacement. I had a similar problem and it fixed itself spontaneously when I started the game a second time. I suppose that as RoA doesn't use another launcher on top of steam, it can't generate it before the game needs it and crashes once (but not again). Those games finish generating it before the game properly starts (as they use a seperate launcher). ini files, which are either kept if the game finds one or regenerates if it can't find a valid one. If so, it's similar to how the 3D Fallout games on Steam generate their graphics. What I assume happens is that there's an config file the game needs to generate if it doesn't find it, or if said config file is invalid. If not.Ģ) Look for any files mentioned in an error message and delete them before starting the game/validating game files again. Try starting the game a 2nd time and see if that fixes it. Others seem to post them in the dicussions here. Had gotten to the first spash screen with Smashcon and other stuff. Decided to dust it off after 6 months or so and presented with :Ĭalled from - gml_Script_ini_write_real_str (line 5)Ĭalled from - gml_Script_reset_ell_values (line 65)Ĭalled from - gml_Script_reset_dev_mode_values (line 98)Ĭalled from - gml_Script_init_dev_mode (line 32)Ĭalled from - gml_Script_GAME_START (line 703)Ĭalled from - gml_Object_NetworkManager_Create_0 (line 2)Ĭalled from - gml_Object_pers_obj_Step_0 (line 7)
